Access notes
The launch is on public BLM land, but routine Woodrat operations depend on RVHPA-managed private landing access. Current RVHPA and USHPA membership and the association waiver are required. Use only Hunter or Wells among the disclosed LZs under this dataset's 3.2 km all-facility policy.
Site rules
- Maintain current RVHPA and USHPA membership
- Read and follow all Woodrat launch and landing-zone rules
- Use Hunter or Wells for this dataset; do not use Phil's or LongSword
- No powered aircraft within earshot and no speed-wing or mini-wing use at Hunter
Launch directions
N, NE, W, NW
Direction notes
North face approximately 330-050 degrees; west face approximately 230-320 degrees.
Safety notes
- P3 is standard; P2 pilots require an experienced mentor
- Mountain thermals, strong cycles and changing valley wind require active assessment
- The ridge can support both north and west faces, but crosswind and strong-wind launches are hazardous
- Hunter is the primary screened LZ; Wells is a narrower alternative and both require current protocol knowledge
Additional notes
Top is Woodrat's main high launch. North works about 330-050 degrees and west about 230-320 degrees; the current guide lists PG wind near 0-15 mph. RVHPA events and flight logs show active 2026 use.
Map pin (exact launch)
RVHPA and BLM publish the Top launch at this mapped ridge location.
Navigation warning
Use the current BLM/RVHPA approach and do not substitute a private landing field not listed as FAA-screened in these notes.
