Access notes
Infrequently used north launch on BLM-managed Whiskey Mountain/Peak land. Contact the Lander Field Office for current seasonal, wildlife, fire, and motor-route restrictions before travel. The published route requires a high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicle and does not establish any fixed landing-zone permission.
Site rules
  • Confirm current Lander Field Office access, wildlife, fire, road, and seasonal restrictions; motor travel is limited to a few roads through the bighorn sheep range.
  • Stay on legal designated vehicle routes and use a capable high-clearance 4x4; do not create tracks or attempt the approach when wet, snowed in, or otherwise damaging.
  • This is an occasional north/NNE XC launch, not a managed flight park. Carry satellite communication and a complete legal retrieval/landing plan.
  • No fixed LZ is published. Obtain landowner permission before landing on private land and respect all public-land, grazing, and wildlife restrictions.
  • Launch early and conservatively; the source says the site is often blown out and can produce strong thermals.

Direction notes
The WeFly guide identifies north to north-northeast flow. No numeric wind limit is published; the site is often blown out, so no value is inferred.
Safety notes
  • Rocky footing, remote access, strong thermals, and rapid wind increase make this an advanced backcountry site.
  • The area is frequently too windy; a favorable forecast is not a substitute for on-launch cycles and winds-aloft assessment.
  • There is no published official LZ or routine retrieve service; forced landings may involve fences, livestock, remote terrain, or private parcels.
  • Carry water, first aid, satellite tracker/communicator, emergency equipment, and a retrieval team prepared for limited cell service.
Additional notes
Public BLM north launch supported by a current takeoff guide and multiple actual 2021-2022 Whiskey Peak XC flights. It is intentionally described as infrequently used and advanced; no PPG use is established.
