Access notes
The ParaglidingEarth record documents surface towing in the Mississippi River valley flatlands around Valmeyer and explicitly says the tow location changes with wind direction. Current STL Paragliding sources confirm an active regional crew and multiple tow rigs but do not publish a fixed Valmeyer field. Contact the current crew or a current southern-Illinois USHPA instructor for the lawful tow area, land access, meeting point, and site briefing.
Site rules
- Coordinate with STL Paragliding or a current local instructor before travel; do not navigate to or launch from the stored generalized point.
- Use only a current crew-designated non-airport tow area with landholder access, qualified tow personnel, working communication, appropriate tow equipment, and the current USHPA waiver and procedures.
- The legacy route via I-255, Route 3, and Bluff Road reaches the Valmeyer region only; it does not establish an exact field, parking area, road closure, or permission.
- Do not use Sullivan Field, Gateway Airpark, Sackman Field, any other airport/airfield/aerodrome/airstrip, or an airport-dependent launch or landing zone.
- Screen the actual operating point for current airspace, NOTAMs, TFRs, obstacles, flooding, crops, traffic, surface condition, weather, and emergency landing options.

Direction notes
ParaglidingEarth rates north, northeast, southeast, south, and southwest as good and east, west, and northwest as possible, while also stating that the tow location varies with wind. These are regional tow options, not directions guaranteed at this point.
Safety notes
- Current STL Paragliding towing instruction covers equipment, communication, preflight, launch, tow procedures and physics, repeated safe tows, and the USHPA tow test and waiver.
- The legacy source identifies flatland thermal towing and no fixed landing zone. Tow-line hazards, release/abort procedures, road or field traffic, and landing-area inspection require an organized qualified crew.
- Mississippi River bottom conditions, flooding, crops, surface softness, and wind exposure can change; obtain a same-day briefing and inspect the actual tow and landing areas.
Additional notes
Included under the broadened operator/general-area rule. The legacy record establishes Valmeyer-area PG towing, and current regional sources establish an active tow community, but the current operator does not claim this exact point. PPG remains false because neither the legacy Valmeyer record nor a current source ties powered operation to this area.
Map pin (general area)
Legacy Valmeyer activity-area coordinate. The source explicitly says the tow location changes with wind; the point is not a field entrance, tow start, parking coordinate, access road, or landing zone.
Navigation warning
General Valmeyer tow-area pin only. Contact STL Paragliding or a current local instructor for the lawful non-airport operating location; do not use this point for navigation or land access.
