Access notes
Current PG sources call Slide open and unrestricted. The published route stages a shuttle at the BLM landing area, uses State Route 431 and Slide Lodge Road, and parks in front of Slide Lodge at Mt. Rose. The launch maps as Forest Service land within an active resort context, so obey current parking signs, seasonal closures, resort operations, and staff direction; open PG access is not permission to interfere with ski-area operations.
Site rules
  • Check current Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe and Humboldt-Toiyabe access, parking, fire, road, and seasonal closure notices before arrival.
  • Stage the shuttle only at a currently lawful public landing and parking area and keep all resort traffic, gates, emergency routes, and work areas clear.
  • Respect on-site staff direction and do not launch during incompatible resort operations, maintenance, wildfire response, or posted closure.
  • This row establishes unpowered PG only; no PPG operation is inferred.

Direction notes
ParaglidingEarth rates E and SE as good and NE and S as possible. Treat these as source-reported headings, not a day-of-flight wind authorization; the current Slide page emphasizes rapidly changing mountain flow and rotor.
Safety notes
  • The current source describes a 7,600-foot takeoff where conditions can change rapidly and rates weather difficulty as moderate.
  • Hazards include strong thermal activity, limited emergency landing options in the mountains, layered wind shear, wind gradient, and rotor because the launch can sit on the lee side of prevailing flow.
  • BHGC recommends H3 or H2 with an instructor and warns about wind over the back; obtain a local site introduction if unfamiliar.
  • Confirm the BLM landing area, launch surface, shuttle road, NOTAMs, TFRs, weather, and resort operations on the day of flight.
Additional notes
Approved as a current public/unregulated PG launch with a first-party resort context, a separately published public-land landing point, active 2025-2026 track evidence, and no airport, R/P-airspace, or live-duplicate conflict. PPG remains false because every current source documents only unpowered flight.
Map pin (exact launch)
Published ParaglidingEarth point corroborated within about 60 meters by the current BHGC launch coordinate; it is not a surveyed property corner, parking stall, or landing target.
Navigation warning
Published launch point only. Verify the open approach, exact setup edge, resort parking instructions, and BLM landing area before navigation or flight.
