Access notes
BHGC currently publishes this as the separate 5,900-foot middle launch within the unregulated Petersen Mountain/Rainbow Ridge site. Current reference mapping identifies the point as BLM. Use only open existing roads or hike, confirm any gate and road condition, and verify a current legal BLM or top-landing plan rather than assuming the lower site's developed-area options remain usable.
Site rules
  • Use existing open routes only and leave gates, vegetation, grazing activity, and other authorized public-land uses undisturbed.
  • Verify an unobstructed and lawful landing or top-landing area before launch; construction and utility conditions can change.
  • Obtain a local site introduction if unfamiliar and do not transfer the lower launch's heading envelope to this middle point without on-site confirmation.
  • No PPG use is established.
Direction notes
BHGC publishes the distinct middle coordinate but no middle-specific heading or wind envelope. The lower launch's 090-130-degree guidance is not automatically applied.
Safety notes
  • Rainbow Ridge has multiple power-line systems, choppy air, and north-wind rotor risk; survey the middle launch's distinct wire and terrain geometry before setting up.
  • The current source recommends H3 or H2 with an instructor for the Rainbow Ridge launch system.
  • No source publishes a middle-launch-specific wind range, maintained LZ, bailout, or emergency plan.
  • Check current weather, AWOS, NOTAMs, TFRs, BLM restrictions, road conditions, construction, and bystander clearance.
Additional notes
Approved as a distinct current public middle launch, not a duplicate of the lower or upper point. Current sources establish PG only, so PPG is false.
Map pin (exact launch)
Current BHGC middle-launch coordinate, approximately 1 km north of the lower launch and approximately 1 km south of the upper launch.
Navigation warning
Published middle-launch point only. Confirm the exact active face, wire layout, open route, and lawful landing plan before use.
