Access notes
Use the current Glide Missoula membership, USHPA, Sentinel waiver, local-introduction, observer, tower-call, WhatsApp open/close, radio, LZ, wildlife, and fire procedures. Cox is a separate southern setup and does not inherit a different launch's direction envelope.
Site rules
  • Hold current club and USHPA membership, complete the Sentinel waiver, and obtain a local introduction.
  • Call Missoula Tower before and after flying and complete the club WhatsApp open/close process.
  • P3 flies solo; P2 needs five observed flights with two qualified locals and must then fly with P3.
  • Avoid Class D, occupied soccer fields, emergency-only landing areas, wildlife disturbance, and posted closures.
  • Carry a radio and follow the current Cox-specific launch and landing plan.
Launch directions
S, SW, W, NW
Direction notes
Current club range is 180-320 degrees; actual flow, rotor, gust spread, and the selected LZ control.
Safety notes
  • Current PG envelope is 180-320 degrees, ideal, with 20 mph maximum and 5 mph gust spread; broad direction does not make rotor acceptable.
  • Rotor, venturi, valley convergence, strong thermals, storms, virga, and outflow are key mountain-site hazards.
  • The shared primary LZ is only 3.393 km from current heliport MT23; confirm the LZ and full route rather than relying on the clean launch point.
  • The Cox launch is 4.018 km from MT23 and intersects no current Restricted/Prohibited polygon.
Additional notes
Distinct current Cox launch retained with the common Sentinel club/tower procedure and its own direction parameters.
Map pin (exact launch)
Published Cox launch coordinate and separately named current club launch.
Navigation warning
The point is not the access route, waiver, tower coordination, Class D boundary, or an available landing target.
