VHPA uses this lower former ski-trail launch with Ascutney Outdoors. Current USHPA/VHPA membership, annual waiver, current event check, Visitor Center sign-in, and the site's introduction rules apply. Hike or skin beside the T-Bar or use the maintenance road for roughly 20-30 minutes. P3+/M2+ and Restricted Landing skill are required. The launch and only reachable LZ are unavailable whenever the lift/tow is operating, skiers are on the slope, or an event occupies the bailout.
Site rules
  • No flying while the lift or rope tow is operating, while skiers are on the slope, or while an event makes the AO bailout unavailable.
  • Maintain current USHPA/VHPA membership and annual waiver, complete the current Visitor Center sign-in, and obtain the required experienced-local site introduction; P3+/M2+ and RL are required.
  • The AO bailout at 43.470458,-72.465915 is the only reachable LZ. Confirm it is open before climbing to launch.
  • Yield to all skiers, maintain ample horizontal clearance from T-Bar infrastructure, never fly over the T-Bar, and avoid overflying the Ascutney Outdoors building.
  • Use only the current signed hike/skin route; no tree trimming, no camping, and leave no trace.
  • Do not infer PPG permission. This row documents foot- or ski-launched PG/mini-wing use, not motor use.

Official narrow sector is approximately 305-325 degrees. Valley flow can differ from both the forecast and higher launch readings.
Safety notes
  • The steep launch is narrow, with trees on one side and T-Bar infrastructure on the other. It is highly unforgiving of crosswind and poor inflation control.
  • Published PG range is roughly 5 mph minimum, 10 mph ideal, and 15 mph maximum within a narrow 305-325-degree sector; local valley flow may differ from the forecast and the higher launches.
  • The AO bailout is tight, may have changing valley wind, and requires an approach that avoids the tow line and buildings. It is prohibited whenever the tow or an event is active.
  • The approach can require a short into-wind or side-hill landing. Watch the maintained windsock continuously and have an alternate decision before launch—there is no other reachable official LZ.
  • Winter surface, skiers, tow hardware, trees, buildings, spring thermals, rotor, and poor cell coverage materially constrain safe use.
Additional notes
Current exact lower Ascutney PG/mini-wing launch omitted by the automated manifest. It is distinct from the higher Northwest PG launch because it has a separate takeoff, shorter hike, narrower wind sector, different skill rule, and only one reachable LZ.
