Makapuu is a USHPA-insured paragliding site operated under permits maintained by the Hawaii Paragliding Association and Hawaiian Hang Gliding Association. Before flying, a PG pilot must be a current USHPA member and a member of a local club and must contact a local member; visitor membership in the PG club is currently free. This is routine club/permit coordination, not unrestricted public access.

  • Hold current USHPA membership and membership in the appropriate local club before flying; current visitor PG-club membership is free.
  • Contact a local club member before flight and obtain the current permitted launch, landing, and local air-traffic protocol.
  • Use the PG protocol supplied by the Hawaii Paragliding Association; hang-gliding launch permits and protocols are separately managed by the Hawaiian Hang Gliding Association.
  • This record establishes unpowered paragliding only and must not be used as evidence of paramotor permission.
