La Bajada operates under a U.S. Forest Service permit and requires current USHPA and SSA memberships. From I-25 exit 271, follow Entrada La Cienega, Los Pinos, Paseo Real, 56C, and NF-24; park only at the top-landing area behind launch. The dirt road can become impassable in monsoon rain or winter snow, and no off-road driving is allowed.
Site rules
  • Maintain current USHPA and SSA memberships and follow the SSA/USFS permit terms.
  • Use NF-24, avoid wet-road damage, park at the designated top area, and do not drive off road.
  • Do not bottom-land or enter Cochiti Pueblo land except in a genuine emergency; report any emergency landing through the current club process.
  • Commercial tandems require separate stakeholder permits; this row establishes unpowered PG only.

Safety notes
  • P2 guidance is 0-18 mph, ideal 10 mph, gusts no greater than 5 mph; best sector is SW through WNW.
  • The uneven volcanic cliff, rotor behind the rim, wind gradient, sudden gust waves, and strong warm-season thermals require conservative margins.
  • Top-land at or beyond the guide's fourth telephone-pole reference; do not treat the bottom of the cliff as a normal LZ.
  • The stored point is 13.786 km from SAF Santa Fe Regional and intersects no current Restricted or Prohibited polygon.
