Access notes
The launch maps as Forest Service land and current sources continue to identify PG use, with repeated 2025 and 2026 recorded flights. The source describes roadside parking and a roughly five-minute footpath to launch. No official maintained PG facility or guaranteed landing is published. The legacy valley landing point maps as private and must not be used without permission; fly only with a locally verified public or lawful top-landing plan.
Site rules
  • Do not use the legacy 38.9685,-119.84 valley landing coordinate; current reference mapping identifies it as private.
  • Before launch, identify and verify a lawful public or expressly authorized landing and bailout plan that remains reachable in the expected conditions.
  • Park completely clear of State Route 207, driveways, gates, snow operations, and emergency access, and use only an open public footpath.
  • A local advanced-site briefing is strongly recommended; no club membership or contract is currently published as mandatory.
  • This row establishes PG only, not PPG.
Launch directions
E, SE, S
Direction notes
ParaglidingEarth rates SE as good and E and S as possible. The current APPI page confirms paragliding but does not publish a safe wind-speed envelope; obtain a current local briefing.
Safety notes
  • The source calls Kingsbury one of the area's most serious and demanding sites, with turbulent active air, booming thermals, trees immediately below launch, limited emergency landings, and substantial cross-country potential.
  • The setup is a steep dirt slope with loose small rocks and a tree obstacle immediately after takeoff.
  • Weather can be difficult to anticipate; the source recommends being guided through the site, and a serious April 2026 terrain-impact rescue confirms the consequences of error.
  • Do not launch without an independently legal landing plan, adequate mountain-flying skill, current weather, NOTAM/TFR review, and rescue/retrieval planning.
Additional notes
Approved as a current public PG launch because the takeoff is on Forest Service land, the coordinate has current PG corroboration and 2025-2026 flight activity, and it clears all FAA and live screens. The legacy private landing is deliberately excluded; the row is not a promise that a valley LZ is available.
Map pin (exact launch)
Published ParaglidingEarth and APPI/XContest takeoff point. It is not a parking coordinate, property survey, approved landing, or bailout.
Navigation warning
Exact source launch point only. Do not navigate to the legacy private valley LZ; verify public access, roadside parking, launch surface, and a lawful landing plan first.
