Access notes
Green Point is a privately owned flying property managed by the Green Point Flyers Association. Every owner, pilot, helper, camper, family member, and visitor must complete the current-season GPFA liability waiver; pilots must be current full USHPA members, current on GPFA dues or the applicable temporary/day fee, and follow posted kiosk notices. Non-owner pilots are accepted when current membership, rating, experience, and site terms are satisfied. Because this is private property, the row is intentionally red as well as visibly club/contract controlled.
Site rules
- Complete the current-season GPFA liability waiver before entering or using the property; the published regulations state that anyone without a waiver is trespassing.
- Be a current full USHPA member, carry proof, and be current on GPFA dues or the applicable temporary/day fee before flying.
- Wear a helmet and reserve parachute, carry a hook knife, and use equipment in good working order; owners may reject substandard or dangerous equipment.
- Complete a witnessed hook-in or hang check. Radio use on the published club frequency 151.625 is strongly recommended.
- Paraglider pilots must be at least P2; P1 pilots and students require a current USHPA-certified PG instructor. Winds 0-15 mph require P2 or instructor supervision, and 16 mph or more requires P3.
- Do not launch a paraglider from the hang-glider ramp. Use the dune-swale/blowout PG launch and follow current posted setup instructions.
- Mini/speed wings require the appropriate pilot rating and mini-wing signoff. Tandem pilots and passengers must meet the published USHPA and current GPFA membership requirements.
- Follow the GPFA ridge, thermal, separation, passing, and right-of-way rules; clear turns and never assume another pilot sees you.
- Current reporting confirms PPG activity by GPFA members, but the posted regulation PDF is written primarily for HG/PG. Powered pilots must confirm the current powered-launch, noise, route, and ground procedure directly with GPFA before use.
Launch directions
SW, W, NW
Direction notes
ParaglidingEarth marks W good and SW/NW possible; the current Michigan site guide independently describes the PG dune swale as roughly west-facing. Current on-site wind and GPFA rules control.
Safety notes
- The PG launch is a sandy dune swale facing roughly west; the hang-glider ramp is not a PG launch.
- Beach landing areas below the bluff can be very narrow. The preferred larger landing destination is Elberta Beach about 1.5 miles north; top landing is possible only in some areas.
- Lake Michigan weather can change quickly. Whitecaps, wind lines, low cloud, unstable air, turbulence, and strengthening wind require a prompt land-or-do-not-launch decision and a backup landing plan.
- The club identifies mid-air collision as a principal ridge-soaring risk. Maintain separation, match an established thermal turn direction, and make right-of-way corrections early.
- The stored launch is 3.987 km from current FAA facility FKS Frankfort Dow Memorial Field, only 0.787 km beyond the hard buffer. Review current airspace, traffic, NOTAMs, TFRs, and the intended route rather than treating the clean point as route clearance.
Additional notes
Current club, association rules, a 2026 APPI record, and a 2025 direct local report establish active PG and explicit PPG use. The private-field red status and club status are independent and both intentionally retained.
Map pin (approximate field)
Published ParaglidingEarth Greenpoint launch point, 58 m from the duplicate OSM private takeoff feature. The GPFA sources confirm the named property and 911 address but do not publish a survey-grade PG/PPG setup coordinate.
Navigation warning
Private GPFA property pin, not permission, parking instructions, gate access, a powered setup point, or an LZ target. Complete the current waiver and club terms and confirm the current procedure before travel.
