Access notes
Public Fort Stevens State Park coastal dune outside the recurring western-snowy-plover closure window. No club membership or discretionary authorization is required, but all OPRD seasonal habitat and beach-use restrictions control access.
Site rules
  • No paragliding March 15 through September 15
  • Use Area B only during the open September 16-March 14 season unless OPRD posts a change
  • Obey plover, beach-driving, parking and posted habitat closures
  • Yield to pedestrians and other beach users
Launch directions
SW, W
Direction notes
CPC ideal 230-280 degrees, usable 220-290 degrees; Discover lists SW/WSW/W.
Safety notes
  • P2 coastal site but not a beginner top-landing area
  • The short razorback dune produces severe rotor behind the crest
  • Avoid forced top landings and remain in front of the rotor
  • Tides, surf, beach traffic and seasonal habitat boundaries can remove landing margin
Additional notes
Low coastal dune, generally southwest through west. CPC lists ideal 230-280 degrees, usable 220-290 degrees and PG wind near 5/8/15 mph; Discover lists 10-18 mph. The site is recurrently seasonal, not a year-round launch.
Map pin (exact launch)
Discover Paragliding currently publishes the Area B trailhead coordinate; it supersedes the manifest's more southerly Iredale pin.
Navigation warning
Do not use the shipwreck/Iredale manifest pin as Area B. The reviewed site is closed to paragliding March 15 through September 15 and should be used only September 16 through March 14 unless the land manager publishes a change.
