Shenandoah National Park launch requiring its annual special-use permit, current CHGPA/USHPA procedures and P3 with Cliff Launch signoff. The Bells/Rudacilles main LZ is private, gated property, so independent private authorization flags remain red.

  • Carry the current annual Shenandoah National Park special-use permit
  • First-time pilots need an experienced site pilot and LZ walk
  • No top landing and no landing inside the park
  • Keep clear of animals and close/operate gates exactly as directed

Current guide gives ideal 220-260 degrees and an acceptable window about 210-280 degrees.
Safety notes
  • Constrained cliff/slot launch requires precise inflation and commitment
  • Main LZ is sloped, tree-bounded and shared with animals
  • Southerly flow can create turbulence and the bowl can venturi
  • Linden VOR/regional-jet traffic makes current sectional, NOTAM and altitude awareness essential
Additional notes
Current guide revised 7 February 2026. The official private LZ, mapped emergency field and disclosed Skyline High School/north-field XC option were all facility-screened even though the main LZ is the planned operation.
