Dalles Mountain is the current track-confirmed launch within Columbia Hills State Park. Complete State Parks' annual free-flight registration, carry it with you, and use only the posted designated launch and landing areas after checking current park/ranger status.
Site rules
  • Complete Washington State Parks' current annual paragliding/hang-gliding registration and carry proof while flying.
  • Use only posted designated launch and landing areas during daylight and obey every park, ranger, seasonal, fire, event, and operational closure.
  • Carry a Discover Pass where required and do not block roads, trails, campsites, day-use facilities, or emergency access.
  • Motorized gliders are not permitted under the State Parks free-flight authorization.
  • Do not fly over congested areas or assemblies and independently check current airspace, TFRs, NOTAMs, and weather.
Direction notes
The current State Parks page and flight index do not publish a reusable face/wind table; posted site limits and a local briefing control.
Safety notes
  • The Columbia Gorge can produce severe gradient, venturi, rotor, wave, rapid direction change, and strong thermals; obtain a current local briefing.
  • The launch is only 3.502 km from 60WN Letties Landing airport, so do not shift the operating point or landing plan westward without a fresh all-facility screen.
  • Basalt, cliffs, wildfire, snakes, ticks, roads, cultural resources, and changing ranch/park operations are material hazards.
