Access notes
The Michigan free-flight community identifies the Arcadia bluff on the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy preserve as open to the public and pilots, primarily PG because of the long carry. The current land-manager page keeps Arcadia Dunes open dawn to dusk and publishes designated parking and property rules. No fee, membership, or prior flight authorization is published, but pilots should check current GTRLC notices before travel because the official recreation list does not separately describe the launch.
Site rules
  • Use the preserve only from dawn to dusk and park only in designated parking areas or a maintained-road right of way without harming vegetation.
  • Stay on durable access surfaces where practical and do not cut, remove, or damage dune vegetation or other natural features.
  • Do not place structures or markers, operate an ORV or drone, camp, light fires, or leave equipment or waste on the preserve.
  • Share the multi-use preserve respectfully with hikers, runners, hunters, and other visitors; do not block trails, the overlook, or public access.
  • Confirm current land-manager notices, launch condition, landing access, and any seasonal restriction before carrying equipment to the bluff.
  • This row documents PG only. The public preserve and PG source do not establish powered-paramotor ground access.
Direction notes
No current source publishes a compass launch direction; none is inferred from the shoreline or terrain.
Safety notes
  • The local site guide describes a long walk and several hundred final yards over bare sand; plan conservatively for the equipment carry and return.
  • No current source publishes a rating requirement, wind limit, launch heading, landing-zone boundary, bailout, crowd limit, or emergency procedure. Obtain a current local briefing and inspect both launch and landing before flight.
  • Arcadia Dunes is ecologically sensitive and active hunting is allowed under preserve rules while trails remain open. Check seasons, remain conspicuous, and avoid all vegetation damage.
  • A public overlook or beach is not automatically a safe landing area. Confirm current surface, people, obstacles, beach width, lake conditions, and legal egress.
  • The stored point is 7.379 km from current FAA facility Y68 Joyfield and intersects no current FAA Restricted/Prohibited polygon; still check NOTAMs, TFRs, controlled airspace, and the full intended route.
Additional notes
Retained as a known public PG site under the user's broad-public-site rule. The current land manager confirms public preserve access and rules, while the Michigan free-flight guide supplies the pilot-use evidence. PPG is explicitly false because no powered use is documented.
Map pin (approximate field)
Published ParaglidingEarth Acadia/Arcadia bluff takeoff point on the Arcadia Dunes preserve. The current land-manager and local community pages confirm the preserve and pilot use but not a survey-grade launch setup point.
Navigation warning
Approximate public-preserve launch-area pin only. It is not parking, a trail route, a guaranteed clear takeoff, an LZ, or proof that conditions and access remain suitable today.
