Access notes
Use the current RGSA north-only route through the Camino Real Landfill entrance at 31.806763,-106.588187. Tell the guards you are flying the mesa; the guide documents a standing arrangement with the superintendent. Park west of the barbed-wire fence and follow the current guide rather than generic navigation. Calling Border Patrol AMOC before flight is strongly advised so local helicopter crews can be notified.
Site rules
  • Never approach from the south or enter the National Defense Area; remain at least 100 feet north of the border wall on the ground and in flight.
  • Check in with landfill guards and follow all current staff, route, parking, fence, and closure instructions.
  • Do not land near the Stryker vehicle, troops, or border wall; top-land or use the large base LZ only as the guide describes.
  • This source establishes PG/HG only and does not establish PPG.
Launch directions
E, ESE
Direction notes
The 2026 guide gives 80-100 degrees as ideal and says ENE-SSE can work, with E/ESE best.
Safety notes
  • P2 site; PG range is 9-15 mph with about 12 mph ideal and a primary E/ESE sector.
  • Significant rotor exists about 30 feet behind the rim; barbed wire is immediately behind launch, and the calcified escarpment can cut lines.
  • Police and border helicopters are a material hazard; use the current notification procedure and remain alert for rotor wash.
  • Launch is 8.137 km from 50XA Las Palmas Medical Center heliport and outside current Restricted/Prohibited polygons.
Additional notes
Included as a standing staff-coordinated club site, not walk-up public access and not a red private field. The current guide's guard check-in and superintendent arrangement are routine coordination rather than discretionary case-by-case permission.
Map pin (exact launch)
Current RGSA-published launch point; landfill entrance is a separate staff check-in point.
Navigation warning
Border-sensitive staff-coordination site. Do not navigate from the south; read the current guide, check in with landfill guards, and obey all National Defense Area restrictions.
